Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology -

Dr. Chen's Lab

Our research explores host-pathogen interactions in maize and soybean to uncover resistance mechanisms and develop approaches such as Host-Induced Gene Silencing (HIGS) and CRISPR-Cas to reduce fungal infection. I have become proficient in the use of many experiment types such as qPCR, HPLC, and microscope use. I have a forthcoming publication on zygosity in maize under the guidance of Dr. Chen and am in the process of conducting research for my senior thesis regarding maize and zygosity.

January 2023 - Current

Shadowing

Eye Medical Center, Baton Rouge General, Open Health Clini

I have shadowed a range of physicians from ophthalmology, plastic surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology, observing both surgical procedures and clinical care. I gained insight into the dynamics of patient-physician interactions, the variety needs across specialties, and the extensive preparation and research that physicians do behind the scenes.

July 2024 - July 2025

Intern

Lafayette Dermatology

I interned with Dr. Drew for a month, assisting with office and room organization, patient guidance, and clinical procedures. Through this experience, I worked closely with her medical assistants and Dr. Drew, learned proper sterilization techniques, and gained knowledge on the scientific foundations of dermatology and the precision required for the specialty.

Soccer Coach

Baton Rouge Soccer Club

I coach a pre-competitive soccer program at Baton Rouge Soccer Club. In this role, I find importance in creating a positive yet competitive environment while adapting to the diverse physical and mental needs of each athlete. This experience has strengthened my leadership skills, teaching me to both adapt to each player and be confident in my decisions to guide an entire team.
